Kexxel Group: 300 industry players join Kexxel Group at the ESG Evolve 2022 Conference in the hopes of creating meaningful ESG change for Malaysia’s corporate landscape
6th – 8th December – The ESG Evolve 2022 conference at EQ, Kuala Lumpur, came to a successful close this 8th of December 2022, however, the ESG journey is ever continuing as the 300 delegates from all over Asia leave with insightful knowledge and meaningful connections. With so much shared and discussed during the 3-day conference, it is exciting to see how the ESG landscape will develop in Asia for the next few years.
Regarding ESG Evolve 2022, Yeon Boon Pin, Managing Director of Kexxel Group, said “The main objective of holding our inaugural conference on ESG is to bring together a prominent panel of thought leaders who will share their views and experience on best practices with the ESG community. The ESG Evolve conference brought together great minds and experienced advocates from a wide range of industries, all of which are placing importance in ESG for the years to come. Multiple panel sessions with award-winning companies such as BMW, Bloomberg, AIA, SEEK, etc., brought to light the efforts being put into the three pillars of ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance. The energy and passion for sustainability at the networking hours after each session were a sight to see. All delegates participated in reflecting on the takeaways of the sessions while networking with many other leaders and advocates.
Some takeaways from ESG Evolve 2022
“Chess takes time (to win), not immediately. In the longer term, we come out on top.” Referencing a game of chess, Dr. Vinod, Group Chairman of PETRA, advises the audience that sustainability is not something that can be achieved overnight but can be won in the long term. This is a shared sentiment throughout the panel – that business should start with baby steps before moving forward and it should be recognized that ESG is a long-term journey.
Norazzah Sulaiman, Group Sustainability Chief Officer of ESG award-winning group RHB Banking, said “Our community engagement efforts are anchored on two main pillars, Nurturing Future Generations and Lifting Communities.” She notes the importance of setting an ESG framework with the goal of making ESG “business as usual”. Another sentiment shared by many other panelists, ESG should be integrated with the purpose of making it business as usual rather than a one-time project.
ESG Evolve 2022 concluded with a hands-on workshop led by Peter McAteer, where delegates are hit with the hard truths of the current state of ESG and where insights are turned into actions. Taking from his best-selling book “Sustainability is the New Advantage”, Peter went into detail on the multi-faceted aspects of ESG integration and sustainable decision-making. By the end of the 3-day conference, Kexxel Group and the attendees were buzzing with hope and passion for the possible developments in the ESG journey of Asia.
